Forum : Producing Help : kinda screwed
i had the weirdest thing happen to my laptop yesterday, everytime after about 15 mins of work in ableton it crashed. first i thought it was some error cause of my soundcard or something but after i installed a new driver and started up ableton, it crashed again after a while and when i rebooted, ableton suddenly was put back into demo mode and the track i was working on says it's corrupt so can't open it anymore (it was a track i was very pleased about..) i've sent the track to ableton support cause i read they can repair it sometimes and gonna download ableton 8 so i can replace my ableton 6 'demo' version... question is now, if anyone has ever experienced something like this and what did they do back then, cause it's one of the weirdest things i've seen happening on my laptop and i don't dare to start messing around to try and fix it, cause i'm mad enough losing one of my tracks already! cheers

Some friends of mine had a similar problem, they had a cracked version of ableton, and when using ableton AND being connected to the net they received a msg that an illegal copy was detected, causing ableton to shut down..
my advice, download ableton live 7 or 8, and DO NOT use internet at the same time when producing..
good luck with the recovery, those situations suck bigtime...

k thx for the info, kinda strange that it happens at this point though since i'm using ableton for 2 years already now. Time to upgrade i guess hehe lost my track still though, ableton support told me there was to little info in the file to recover it. anyone got tips on retrieving older saves of the same file in your system? if that is possible (which i sincerely hope...)

what you can try is a file recovery tool, like Recuva (www.piriform.com/recuva). With that, you've got a fair chance if you know where the file was saved. But don't get your hopes up too high, it doesn't work miracles either ;)
Hope this helps

i have a problem the whole thing get stuck (ableton) sometimes, i takes 10 secs or 15 secs before i can make another move in the program, i noticed it has something to do with the drumrack, after a doubleclick on the drumrack and after removing some unused sounds (there are many unused sounds cause when i build a beat i insert more sounds to test them on the sequencer in one move instead of always inserting a new one (click and wait till the loop restarts, and then drop it on the drumrack key ----> annoying ---> u cant browse up and down in a map with the arrows like in reason for the redrum by example, that system is easyer to create beats) but so i removed the unused ones (one move every 15 secs) and it seemed to work again... but i dont think we are talking about the same problem and i have a memory problem on my pc also, someone told me about a shop that tune ur pc specially for music, i think i will go there to spice up my system someday, like after +- 8 vsts i got a memory crash with that shit pc... and i got a quad xp with 4 gig ram

Hi!
Dunno if it can Help, I am actually wroking with FL and I had often that kind of problem with some project I couldn't open anymore ( I think FL8 sucks concerning reliability )
Anyway, the good thing with fruity is you can sometimes get your project back if you open it from the BACKUP files, something like c:programmesfilesblablabla fruity data and so on BACKUP
I just started to play with Live few weeks ago, don't know much about yet, but maybe browse the files on your drive looking for something like a BACKUP file
