Hi

You could pretty much use any laptop.
Whichever the laptop you buy, the onboard soundcard is "really bad" (replace by fancy insults).

So you need an external soundcard.

Of course everything depends on what you are planning to play.
If you are only going to play rendered stereo files, maybe getting a laptop with soundcard is overkill ? maybe a good recorder would be enough (and really compact).

Anyway, little advice for using a laptop live :

* always use an external soundcard (even cheap, but it'll always be better than onboard)
* watchout for vibrations, if the table where your laptop is vibrates too much, your hdd will become unusuable, and could possibly get damaged (very rare, but COULD happen). I always keep some downmixed files on a usbkey, because those are now cheap and big, and aren't affected by vibrations.
* keep your windows installation clean, because honestly, windows is very stable if you don't mistreat it.

so basically, get the laptop you want (not one of those netbooks though), get a usb soundcard, and you're good to go.

no no no

not windows.. windows warms up to fast even with a coolboard for it or how do you call that?
windows is very unstable really fast i noticed , i use my windows ONLY for Fruity Loops , samples and vst's , got 4 gig ram and still it blocks even when i do nothing at all.

+ on my windows i had ableton live 8 , i used a nanocontroller for it as MIDI , geuss what.. I twist a nob and only a few seconds later it processes in ableton.. and that was when I had my windows only for 2 months.. So really don't use windows , and if you really want to use windows , use dell's alienware..

I really really suggest you use a macbook (macbook , macbook pro.. Doesn't matter) or a linux

+ if you would use a mac , you can do whatever you want , my macbook is overloaded with games , apps etc.. and everything runs perfectly fine , i never had a problem with mac , running safari (internet) , photoshop , indesign , illustrator , itunes , ableton live 8 AND I STILL CAN PLAY ON CALL OF DUTY 4 when that all is running.

I don't suggest you run all those things on a windows on the same time :p

somehow i KNEW a mac troll would appear.

i don't want to start a flame war, but as you read, the lady doesn't need to run call of duty 4 when having a lot of apps open in the background.

so buying a >1000e computer for that is way overkill.
People have been doing livesets on windows laptops since forever, i myself did a liveset with cubase sx1 and reason for over an hour with a laptop which at the time had 512mb ram and a pentium M processor ... cpu 100% the whole time off course.

SURELY one of those cheap core i3 laptops with 2gb of ram can play some stereo files without overheating ...

yeah but isn't it a damn shame buying a laptop for ONLY playing livesets with?
I mean.. why buying one for livesets , if you'll need one for personal use too.. So u should have 2 laptops? 1 for personal and 1 for livesets?

yeah i have 2 myself , but that's because FL doesn't run on mac , and i don't wanna fuck this hardware up by installing windows and mac on it..

I'm just saying that it's not logical to buy 2 laptops , when you can have 1 for everything

And my personal opinion : i always had problems with windows , mac changed all of that , made things easier for me (but not for everyone)

the mac - windows war (or windows - mac , doesn't matter at all) is going on for ages now and i don't fucking care , everyone uses what they want to.

btw speaking about apple , did you know steve jobs (head of apple) didn't finish his school? damn , the lazy ass motherfucker did NOTHING and he's filthy rich :p
