I can hear it (well, ofcourse, poor me if my ears were that damaged at 17) but it doesn't really irritate me... It's the same sound I hear after a night out, when I'm laying in my bed.

LOL, at first i didn't hear it, thought i was getting old...
discovered my amp wasn't switched on some time later, and seems i can still hear it at the age of 23
i hate it though, it's this sound they use in those mosqieto's to keep kids from hanging around. My grandfather lives in Utrecht, and just about a 500m walk from his street the streets are full of these noises, at times 3 mosqieto's at one crossroad... made my evening walk with my girlfriend a nightmare....

consider earplugs...
I had an earstroke at the age of 31 for different reasons... but one main reason was definately rocknroll (the attitude not the music)... I lost 30% on my left ear,,, now I have a hearing aid for parts of my job... and thats definately no fun.

if i'm correct it has nothing to do with the tone, and everything with the frequency.

sure, no doubt about that, what i meant is: you can lose that specefic freq but still be able to hear higher ones.
a tone on the contrary you can't lose as far as i know, at least as far as i know there aren't any people who can't hear a C-tone, meaning they can't hear c1 and c2 and c3 and ... but still be able to hear all the rest of the tones in the do-re-mi scale.
