Forum : Requests : Burn/Press 50 - 100 CDs with color print and no sabam
Hi,
I would like to burn or press 50 to 100 copies of a demo mix, for promo use. I've already seen quite a lot of middle-class DJ's giving away pro-looking CD's with color label with their own artwork, a nice jewel case with a small booklet and everything...
So my question is, what companies make that without asking for an authorisation of SAB*M, assuming I would do it myself (which of course i'll do... ).
I'm willing to pay up to 300 euros for 100 copies, but I can review the budget if it's way to low for the industry.
Otherwise... I'll just use LightScribe, but it looks less pro... and I'm not fond of the idea of spending evenings in front of my PC, flipping CD's to burn on two sides... it would mean 100 to 200 times burning a CD, so around 600 minutes, 10 hours that I could spend on production / mix / (masturbation).
Cheers!
Jordan

if u go to a regular pressing plant they will ask for the sabam authorisation for sure, so you cant until you press them yourself. none will accept to take the risk afaik.

You can go to a company that duplicates cdr's. In that case you don't need an authorisation from Sabam.
For example TVA Music does a good job. You can order as less copies as you want and it will cost you less than 3 euro/piece. They also print the cdr in full colour. You just send a master cd and they'll send you the copies you ordered within a few days.

sabam is shit...you don t need to pay them;your cd is only demo..;and it's you own production.
For my label for exemple,i don t pay sabam, cuz with the label i don t make money...so i will not pay 400 euros by release,if with the label i make no money...
sabam is create to pay the TOP 50 at tv...i will never receive money from sabam if i put 3SRecordings in..cuz tracks are never play in radion, and on tv etc...so all mney goes for M pokora and diam's and many other...the actual top 50...
So for your case,it's only yourown job,so you will have no problem...

this is surely not a matter of making money with the releases, or your "own" material. even if its your material, you have to tell them you press the tracks. if you are not registered at sabam, then you dont pay. if you are registered, or if the artists in the featured mix are registered, then you have to pay. no matter what.
as long you press something you need to contact them anyway. its not their problem if you get/make money or not. and its not 400€, it depends on a lot more factors. how much you sell the records, how many were pressed, etc etc
if you are registered at sabam, and i believe jordan is, you will have to pay for your own tracks. i had this experience. so dont tell you dont have to pay. this is false information.
although i think you dont need to if its under a certain amount of copies, but im not sure anymore, maybe 250or 300. and only for promo use, never for sale.

sure you are right, but for the price of 400 euros,it's true...+- 100 euros each tracks. I generally put 4 tracks on a EP...
but will phone them...thanks.
ps; i ve modify my word :-)

i paid 137€ for a 4 track ep pressed at 300 copies (a month ago)
and i paid once 290€ for a 5 track ep, 600 copies
when they ask you how much you will sell it (on the paper to fill for mechanical rights), always put the wholesale price: 4 or 5€ max, that should help you to to pay less ;-)

I once heard that there were good and cheap pressing plans for CDs and Vinyl in Czech Republic.

Btw... ask ebel user PACKO coz I know he has excellent contacts in czech republic... but it was NOT him who told me about the cheap CD manifacturers over there!

To basically everyone:
I'm planning on buying myself a duplicator DVD/CD and to find out how to get things sorted with sabam to be able to press my own cd's of copyrighted artists of my own.
So, for those who need small quantities (or larger), I'll be able to do that in 2008 (Both pressing and printing, glossy or 3D silver) for non-copyrighted artists (I presume). The cost for a print and copy is no way 300 euro for 100. It's closer to 1 euro a copy. 300 euro is what you pay pressing plants for small print runs for them, like 100 copies.

'What's it cost?
TuneCore charges $0.99 per track, $0.99 per store per album, and $19.98 per album per year storage and maintenance.'
And anyway AFAIK that's one of the countless 'online distribution' only deals, don't see CD pressings. Regardless, I don't care, I'm not planning on making money from it, just for people planning to do a small print run can hop by. I'm familiar with the Sabam papers to fill in for non-members so I can press small print runs then for people *Shrug*
Duplicator and a good CD printer aren't even all THAT expensive.
