yenneman - Almost Like A Reality

Description

My very first experimental track. I haven't got a clue if it's really experimental, but it's very different from my other stuff...probably the influence from exams and so :p. I tried to pay more attention to the percussion part than I normally do (but I'm still addicted to 4/4 kicks :) ).

Could you guys and girls please give me some feedback? Sound, structure, everything! Because I don't listen to this kind of music much, and I never made it....I just followed my *cough* heart.

Thx everybody.

nice melodies, maybe not really experimental indeed but who gives a f*ck. good groove and nice sound. maybe you could add some clicks and cuts and reversed/funny samples

Welcome back my dear Yenny !

I am dedicating one of my last study breaks (since tomorrow is the last exam) to you by giving you a thourough comment.

1= Bass
The bass melody needs to have different variations in the same key during the frist 2 min period its playing on and on so maybe make about 4 variations that u can alternate in a 1/1 or 3/1 basis
Otherwise I guess you followed your heart while choosing the sample so I respect, its dry and simple and classic ! Maybe a little predominant, you dont hear much of the rest of the song because you're focused and the bass so maybe lower volume or maybe some EQing !

2= Drums
Very very nice I like the click and the ticks and the panning on them its very nice to the ears. The panning is relly nice also I feel the drums are constantly moving and I really like it

3=The little up and down saw
Very nice :)

4=The harmonica typo sound
Fits well and the L-R paning is nice

5=String
Probably same remark as bass, need some variation in the main key. So maybe imagine a few variations to it.

Overall:

Very listenable,
A bit too repetitive, so you should add some variation in bass and strings and maybe ocasionaly on drums to draw listeners attention more.
Lengh is good, but don't make it longer.
I like the constant moving of the whole song... Everything is moving around the bass or so it seems and i like it alot, very nice concept ! But dont be surprised if maybe some are distourbed by the constant moving around !
Bass is too predominant !

A warm Welcome back to you my dear Yenny !

btw are u going to werchter ? I will be there :p

Thx for comments, both of you guys...

@Bedlam: yeah, the bass, I've noticed...it's due to the fact that, while producing, my headphone seems to 'hide' the bass a bit. I got the feeling it wasn't loud enough!
Repetitiveness can be explained by my craving for harsh repetitive industrial music :p. I still have to work on that.

And no, no Werchter for me. I've never gone there actually...it's a pity I'll miss Depeche Mode, Placebo & Tiga.

heyenneman,

this is good!

didn't listen through headphones - as i normally do - so it sounded a little high and dry but yet good enough to give it another listen later-on. btw, aren't you going to Graspop this weekend?

yenneman [be] - 17 years ago

Thanx reaman!

Nope, no Graspop either...I didn't think my exams would be over yet this weekend, so I didn't buy ticks. And because I'm that kind of person who needs to know what he's gonna do at least 2 weeks in advance, I'm not going :) (and the bands aren't exactly appealing this year I think).

I was so fortunate to get my hands on last-minute tickets for Sunday so I did watch Depeche Mode, and boy it was amazing! What a show, I was standing all the way upfront, subliminal concert, one of the best I've ever been too (and considering I've seen a shitload of famous top acts, that means something).
Now back to business: I have to say I like this song a lot Yen, this is quite a positive surprise! I know for you this is experimental, but I guess it would fit in with IDM or lounge styles.
The electronic clicks and cuts in your beats are very good. I would like to hear a bit more diversion to your beats though, maybe throw in some filtered drum'n'bass loops or so, just to get some abstraction in it. Like others have pointed out too, beats are a repetitive.
There's a lil' wobby malström-like patch in the background towards the end, the high-pinched "eeky" thingy which I think is unfitting. Apart from that, a very positive surprise for me. I do hope you'll continue to explore the field of lounge a little further, you obviously feel for it.
