Rabauw - The Hidden Paradise Behind Your Eyes

Description

Every now and then we just want to close our eyes and dream away... forget about everyone and everything in this miserable world, and imagine a place far away from here and unknown to others where we can be at ease and nothing can touch us...

Easy-listenable chill’n’bass at 162 bpm. Note that in the 4 years that I’m producing, this is only the second drum’n’bass song I managed to complete in a satisfying way, so don’t hesitate to spit out your remarks and criticism! I could still use many tips.

And it seems I can’t write songs anymore without vocals...

(UPDATE September 26, 2006) Remastered version, volume thingy Bandarlog pointed out should be fixed. First upload with my new software, sound quality sound be much better now that I have decent mastering tools. But still could use some mastering tips though.

-----------------------------------

Walk away with me to lands unseen
And taste the cold in the air we breathe

Let’s fly away ten thousand miles
To a piece of unspoilt scenery
Travel swift and light – leave all behind
Forget everyone, your time has come
You know you’re done, the sun is gone
And the moonshine is eternal
Wish I could sleep forever...

A friend told me the drums sound like a fanfare lol :)

icteder [be] - 17 years ago

no not like fanfare but you could put the beat abit louder.nice

bandarlog [be] - 17 years ago

ok, sounds ok to me but what the hell happens at 38 secs? Too much volume increase! Make sure you're always at about -3db in your endmix or at least about the same level. I like your ideas in this one! Maybe sometimes some breaks in your breaks or changes in your breaks.

you succeeded in your escapism. i like the electronic touch in your song.

    nice job here,

jikes, someone who knows what's really going on...

you got the thought police on u're back bro!! :P

Rabauw [be] - 17 years ago

Hmm... wasn't expecting the song would be so praised... so, thank you very much I guess... :)

Bandarlog: I'll check that volume-thingy and see if I need to fix it.

I'm no drum'n bass fan, but the dreamy touch you gave this one really haunts me. Also, your vocal part integrates perfectly I must say. I'm a sucker for melancholic pieces :) .
A bit short (good thing: always make them want more :p) and perhaps your kick's a bit too soft. It gives me a trancy feeling.

Incorporating your style into different genres gains my respect.

Rabauw [be] - 17 years ago

Nice comment...really made me smile. And I'm happy you see the conceptual relation between the music and the words, means a lot to me... it shows that people really "feel" it.

As for the kick: yeah I know, it's my biggest flaw in general I guess... not only my fault but reason 2.5 & no decent mastering tool so... :( I'm trying to get this right though...hopefully one day I'll achieve...

nice harmony, i like the atmosphere here. it gives the song a deep touch

keep on making things like this

yeah everyhing is cool. But, because I'am a drum addict (and a drummer myself) I couldnt resist telling you that the drums could be improved. Espicaly the hihats : they dont feel like being part of the drums but just an added sound (speaking about the drums that starts at 0:36)

I must say the quality music wise is much better, it actually sounds mastered :)

Great work i like it alot :p

Your vocals should be copyrighted ! :)

reaman [be] - 17 years ago

after having met you at Graspop i feel more related to your songs than ever. Not that i find all your stuff cool but this has very well succeeded.
As said before... the rythm could come a tad more upfront.
Vocals are as we know them.. was anxious to hearthem in this genre but they fit.

Rabauw [be] - 17 years ago

Lol nice comment hehe, next time we meet hopefully I'll be less drunk and there's less loud music and noise so we can have a decent talk :)

About the vox: To tell you the truth, I was fearing it wouldn't work out well myself, but after recording and mixing them I really thought they matched well with the music... I'm quite satisfied with the result, especially for the fact that I'm not all too experienced in producing dnb.

The whole seems to work very well for me..It's different...mixture of different styles.... Mood setting is excellent...And lyrics are really nice!! Grtz

crolerbedo [be] - 17 years ago

yeah, a good song, but seems to me a bit too "foreseenable" : i mean i wasn't really surprised, the melody comes naturally..it's good, but I prefer surprises..
also i feel the voice a bit too dark, like a sad tone in a dreamy universe ( maybe a way of expressing you can't reach that universe)
but apart of that, very enjoyable, thanks

remaster this and it's great !!!
good text, nice rythm and good build-up !!!

david [be] - 17 years ago

I like it very much from 1:35
The volume change in the beginning (00:38) should indeed be fixed.
    The atmosphere is deliciously cold.
The lyrics and singing remind me of good ole Jean-Luc De Meyer of Front 242 fame. Coming from me, this is a compliment.
    Great song.

Syndaesia [be] - 17 years ago

Nice work on the drumz, but the melodies are ehr, boring

MucH [be] - 17 years ago

Hey this is simply nice! Only the second time ? Really nice drum n bass song, i like the vibes in it, and it's pretty rare when i like drumnbass song^^

Melodies are not boring at my hear

Rabauw [be] - 17 years ago

    Okay remastered version.
What about the new mix & mastering? Tips/remarks?

mik [be] - 17 years ago

This is cool but I need to hear this on my system to be able to give any comments about the mixdown quality!
    Will do that later :)

bandarlog [be] - 17 years ago

Ok, seems fine to me! You clearly solved your volume problem. Try this one on a pa system, it could (!) be that the bass is a bit too much on the higher bass frequencies (300-500hz). Maybe try a small notch there. Apart from that: goood song!

brandtkalk [be] - 17 years ago

sound verry clear, need sub bass, i' like your voice Mr Rabauw!

Distreality [be] - 17 years ago

    great job rabauw !!!

Rabauw [be] - 17 years ago

    thanx people!
I'm happy to read for a first mastering experience the result was pretty okay.
    Cheerz!

yenneman [be] - 17 years ago

Oooh, you've updated this one aight? Sounds great!!!
Maybe a tinywinyitsylittle bit more bass...hmz...nah, forget that, it's cool this way :).

Goddamn man, if you talk about dreamy dancing...one of your best melo's ever imo! When are you gonna release the extended version??? :p

Rabauw [be] - 17 years ago

    What extended version? :)
This is as long (or short for that matter) as it will ever be. For me, it's perfect like this :) Like you said yourself in your previous post, keep them hungry for more... :)

Sincha [be] - 17 years ago

    yeahhhhhhhhhh .......; great song....

orfeo [be] - 17 years ago

Good dark drum & bass track.Good voice(seems the voice of sister of mercy).Good energy.

reaman [be] - 17 years ago

apart from what i previously said about the song... i think the short break from time to time in my left ear is quite a good idea to create structure...

    i liked it once more....

kaoz [be] - 17 years ago

    no criticism, no mastertips
    just nice (space)travel-song

ziggy [be] - 17 years ago

owww, fuck, nice start with the drums...

DeHomunculus [be] - 17 years ago

starts like an action movie. the main melo in the very beginning, entering at about 26 seconds of beauty, does not sound attached to the rest. indeed way chill. love it that way. damn if only i had such a voice and the nessecities to record it... thumbs upper then up... if possible. no? allright. up it is.

Anonymous [be] - 17 years ago

    Ha Rabouw.. great song ;-)

Waw ! Now, I can understand why you're comment are so interrestant :)

Thanks a lot for your advice :)

The voice is really nice, but if I were you, I would put more middle :)

the song would look speeder than now =) But may be, you wanted to do something like that :)

CDawg [be] - 14 years ago
