I think I made an encounter of the third degree last night.

There was this amazingly great event called "Berlin is eene Wolke" in the middle of nowhere over here in Luxembourg. There was TMI with a nice DJ set... RF061992 perfoming on a psycho serial killer stalker horror movie created and dramatized by VJ LarsenB ... me doing an Orchid Poison liveset for the first time... then SERMEQ with excellent new material... CYCLORAMAs asskicking shoegazing electro and then me again with a DIGITAL NATIVE Live. Everything perfect so far.

Then during the second half of my DN liveset a chick approached me... saying: "I don't wanna get on your nerves... but cant you play something that rocks?" I was quite surprised.. as I just had the Indus part of my liveset behind me and i was actually playing some 176 bpm drum n bass... so I tell her... "sorry I am playing my liveset,,," then she said "Oh I see. Then I'll get in my car get you some Rock CDs and you will play them." I say "no... I am not a dj... I play music I created by myself...be patient... ask the DJ after my show to play what ever you want." Two minutes later... she pointed in front of my desk with some 20+ cds on their arms.. gesturing... "Play them"

I ignore her... and two minutes later another chick... a bigger one ... a firend of the first... appears... saying "Now you should really play one of these CDs... It's the TIME NOW!" ...

Then few minutes later... I am finished with my live... and the third chick of the clique approaches... "Can I ask you a question?" ... She seemed liking my stuff, was dancing all the time... but I knew that she was with the 2 others...  so I say "Ehm Yes, sure"...
"What you do is shit..." she claims "theres no beginnning... theres no end... theres no nothing... why cannot you play 2 minute songs like everybody else... with guitar, bass, drums and a singer...?"

I was that much surprised... I thought all this wasnt real... so I tell her :"Girl... You noticed that I am playing electronic music and that you are actually on an elctronic music event?" She replied: "Then should at least play some 'Chicks on speed' because thats electronic music... not what you do there..."

wtf????????????

I think I wrote the whole story down... not only to share my asthonishment... but also to be sure not to forget what was said...

heavy stuff... no?

I think STREKIE had a similar experience some time ago...
he was playing his liveset and people started nagging him to play "Some Fischerspooner" on his machines...

*laughing at those chicks' stupidity and huge arrogance,
...a big WTF indeed,...
idd say ;imagine me doin the same thing on a rock-show,how stupid would that be!!! (they asked me techno once when it was a listening session,on that Ebel unknown tracks 1 session, when they were throwing glass bottles and shit)
...Idd put my mindset to "they are only stupid humans who tend to be this stupid and arrogant".

I know!!! next time, bring a Diskman with headphones for those who come to you and dont like the music! : ) Theyll look stupid dancing at the wrong timecode.

i had almost the same experience, it was the wedding of a friend of mine, he asked me to play my live set, thats what i did, then a stupid girl came to me and asked michael jackson... it was serious ! I told her to go away i need to concentrate on my music, she came back with her boyfriend. He came to me with an aggressive state of mind, i had to remind me more than once that it was my friend's wedding and i cant fight the guy cause they was aggressive and i did soem mistake because of loosin my concentration...
This is always good 'souvenirs'   dont wrry liquidbass you ll laugh about it soon...

I remeber a show Jurassic 5 (oldschool hip hop) in ancien belgique. This guy was harrasing all the ladies, pushing people and just being a genuine asshole. He was being so fucking annoying that J5 stopped the music and asked him to cut it out, he continued...
Chali tuna (wicked mc btw) asked for security to come throw him out, nobody showed up, so he jumped off the stage and dragged the fucker out on the streets. he returned with the whole crowd going mad. 'Now this is fuckin' crowd controle' he said. Best fucking hip hop show ever.
Anyway, I see this same dude over and over again on good gigs in bxl, being equally annoying and drunk each single time. Drunk fuckers with too much selfesteem should be premanently banned from all good parties. Next time I see him I'm tacking a picture and will send it to all the good venues in bxl, or should we just drag him into an alley and give him a rightious asswhooping? Or maybe both, hmmmm

if i were to give a live, and some jackass/bimbo came up to me asking for lets say britney spears, this is what i would do:

1)i'd say a-ok
2) take the cd and put it in player
3)turn up the speed by lets say 50% at least and let it play for 30sec
4) take loop of a bar, making it kinda hardcore
5)tune in my sequencer filled with distorted kicks
6)mash them all together creating some noizy shitcore untill they come claim their cd back in panic i might break it

come to think of it, i'd love something like this to happen :d

no really, some people are just plain ass stupid, ignorant and egocentric.
sad...

Wan Bushi does this with some 90's hits, good party-stuff, without the noisy shit-core part that is.

nono, it HAS to be shitcore, it HAS to be annoying, in that given situation that is. bushi does a great job indeed, but i want the "requester" ear to bleed & suffer when they hear their request! ^^

haha shit what a story. i'm happy nobody ever said something like that to me liquidbass. personally i think that in some occasions it's aloud to hit women in the teeth...no i'm kidding but serious would'nt it be a releave. i feel for you man but you must understand that the music we all make is only for a small group of people and that 95%(and that's an understatement) of the people think our music ain't music at all. some of them have the arrogance to come to parties with electronic music and puke their ugly opinion

as if these people would dare going to a rock concert and ask the band to get their asses off the stage to have their own hiphop or whatever cds playing...

i think people see it different. when a band plays they play their music, people see them do it on their instruments.
when a producer gives a live, he looks more like a dj then as a band, also they don't see you actually make music, they see you fool arround with a laptop and that's it (ok maybe some equipment too). but a dj is open for requests (not all of them, but you know...). so by seeing you more as a dj then as a live playing artist might just give people the idea they can go and request a song.

this prolly isn't the whole story, i'm sure personnalities en charecteristics play a roll too but i'm sure this is a part of the problem imo

i advise every artist to dj at least three times at weddings. it helps you to keep these things into perspective :)

oh yeah, i've done weddings as well. for people i know. and they still want to know me.
