may be a stupid question,but how can i select the vst folder in ableton in lion x on mac.i installed a vsti but it installed it in a random folder.how can i select the vst or do i have just to make a folder in my programs in finder just as you would do in windows.

Hi, I don't know why but usually when I install a vst Ableton find it alone. But it doesn't work for all. So you can go to the preferences, click on "file folder" and then choose the folder for your .vst .

actually, no need to put the vst's in a separate folder. just let it install in the default folder, and then every DAW automaticly finfds the plugins instead of having to select the folder manually.
the default folder is: macintoshHD/library/audio/plugins/VST. the audio-units (=Components), RTAS etc are in their own folders.
off course in the default plugin-folder, you can still make your own structure with subfolders, and ableton will see these as such.
