Forum : Bug Reports : thumb down
okay, this is not a very new idea...
but it definitely could be nice to oblige people to write a comment when leaving a thumb down. i use to upload my music to get advices from all of you. how can i improve myself just by getting thumb down? you can be as wicked as you want in your comments. let yourself writing everything you want but, please, not just : "it suck".
thanks.

a thought ;
if someone finds your track as bad as a thumb down, then I think if that person would put a comment, it wouldnt(!) be relevant to you because of the huge difference in "how music should sound"....at the end it would be too hard to please the audience if you would keep in mind all "good" AND "bad" comments.
Also important to put in your description what kind of comments you want .Im shure you know that.....like ;advice on what could be changed or added or left out ,..but if you want open and honest comments even if the listener thinks it sucks,ok.

It's not a question of getting - yes or no - tumbs down ... but at least in this case you're entitled to get a motivation. Maybe a tumbs up should also be motivated ????
In some cases it might be a honour to get a tumbs down...???

i agree with Bpolar, if we make an obligation to comment thumbs down, lets do the same for thumbs up!
But i think we should just have to deal with thumbs down/up without comments, even if its boring

skip: if there is a comment with the thumb down, i can judge myself if i should take it into consideration.
aphone: i understand you're point of view about thumb up, aphone. but i don't care if poeple like my music. give me thumb-up-without-comment or nothing, it's the same. give me thumb-down-without-comment, and i think <>.
people who like my music just makes me happy.
people who dislike my music AND explain me why makes me progress.
i don't expect ebel community to make me happy.

This is a sterile discussion he(it) seems to me. Indeed, that's right also the democracy. And then it is not very difficult to admit that some fellow finds an ugly song simply, without having to spread in excuses or explanations of all sort. Personally, I must have used him(it) 2X one for Rachid (who was a plaintiff(applicant)) and other than I did not justify. On the other hand I must have used minimum 5500X +. And nobody grumbles ...... same Mozart, we find people who do not like(love). Thus please a little of modesty svp.

In a way, you're deeply right. but in a community like this one, aren't we expecting something more than just "+1" or "-1"? This is absolutely not about self-esteem! I don't care about being loved by anybody, i'm here to try to improve myself thanks to people with an awesome experience ...
anyway, like you said... this thread is stupid being sterile and we already spoke about that thousand times. everybody has is own advice and is not going to change. so, bygone.

very true.
I rather appreciate it that people give me a thumb down with an
explanation to perhaps that little annoying snare that they don't like,
or something similar, sound wise to that.
they don't have to be totally nuts about it...
also, I like it when people say , for example that the pads or bass is
nicely done, or about mixing/mastering tips and structure help,
instead of just say it's cool, nice, good, thumb up or stuff like that.
though motivating , but not really helpful.

yup; you changed my mind a bit.
I think I said that because sometimes when I get a negative comment ,its too different from what I wanted to achieve in the track, and so irrelevant to me.
But I shurely understand your point.
grtz

don't expect improving in a community like e-bel.
i mean, i've posted dozens of songs, and some very shitty ones, and I had only good comments. Everything is always "Hey Nice!", "Good one", "Bass a bit loud but otherwise ok", "Make your drums louder and it's a hit". Come on, is that making me a better producer?
The only point of this community, is a big ego-boost. And we all need one, otherwise we wouldn't still be making crap music all the time.
And I like it that way.
So when sometimes a pisser clicks on the "thumb down" button, actually i don't really care. It doesn't mean much, partly because it's anonymous.

we had this discussion going on here a hundred times before... Zark's idea of the thumb down is for a listener to disagree with a song - wether if it's just different taste or thinking it is a bad song in the bad genre or even a bad song in the right genre...
I also didn't like thumbs down in the past and opened forum threads about it but can't be bothered with it lately.
The solution is partly there... if you just want to share your songs without having the comments (good nor bad) then just chose the "no comments" option while uploading a song.
Peole thumbing down don't always have to explain themselves... society has grown in the direction where you always have to explain why you do/did something in a certain way... (why didn't you come for christmas, why weren't you at home I phoned a dozen times, why didn't you ...) It's so annoying having to explain everything - just accept the fact someone didn't like a track (for any reason...).
As someone said earlier-on in this thread: don't expect to learn a lot while posting a track here... there are just very few listeners who will actually tell you elaborately what could do to really improve your track.
good luck
