Well... what do you think... which one is
better/cooler/more useful or simply the better buy?

Roland sh-201 or microKORG ???

What about other things in the same price category ? (400-600 Euros)

Alesis Micron
Roland Juno-D
Novation Xstation 25
Novation Xiosynth49
...

keep the opinions & discussions coming :) 8)

sounds, control; keyboard, polyphony?

I need nothing... I just wanted to read peoples opinions about the one or the other synth and how they compare them :)

I just know the microkorg which is really good.

I have an x-station 25, and it sounds great.
It's got 8-voice polyphony, but is monotimbral.
Xiosynth has the same synth engine, with a better arp engine in it.

I have worked with the microkorg.
It's 4-voice polyphony, and multitimbral. I personally think it can use some more polyphony. Just imagine you playing a pad with 3 voices and a long release, that means you can't have the second chord come in, when the first one is fading out. And that you can only add a 1 voice lead or bass.

Ask strekie about the micron.

All I know is microKORG sucks big ass if you want a synth with keyboard, 'cause the keyboard is SHIT! IMHO being a learned keyboard player, for the average noob it might be fine. Sound is mighty! Really mighty, mighty, makes a lot of pressure for such a little thing... the SH-201 is cool but to basic, as is the Juno-D (Einsteiger)... The Micron kicks ass, but lacks buttons to control... well and Novation is the Holy Grail if it comes to the price category you propose! Novation synths are so damn tight... but they build sometimes too much on the FX-section as does my NOVA II... the bare sounds lack pressure... controls, well you know 'bout the controls, don't you liquid?! :)

I got a Microkorg. It's cool and has got cool sounds! Especially the unison detune is good and the stereo delay. Downside is indeed the keyboard but that doesn't bother me personnaly since I program everything. For what it costs 2nd had right now it's a good buy. I wouldn't sell mine except for when I'd buy the ms-2000 (which I will if I don't buy the Virus TI polar *drool*)

i'm really thinking about buying the x-station, i think it's one of the most complete ones at that pricerange.
Bt since i don't have enough money yet (...and i might not be able to wait untill i do),
i will probably go for the Novation Remote SL (with the supersweet automap-function)

the 201 sounds good, easy to make new original presets, handy for live sets and cheap, the microkorg is pretty limited qua presets, not very user-friendly imo and the novation sounds reaaally good, alot of presets, also downloadable, easy to use, very user friendly and handy for live. So i would go for the 201 or the novation ;)

i don't really think u can make a big profit 2d hand.
u can also get a NEW microkorg for 300euries.
It's just a question if 50 euro is worth the risk that some knobs (or screen) are busted. And offcourse u get store-warenty when buying new.

Planning on buying myself, i checked lots of prices. I found that most secndhand stuff is the same price as in the store and even more often the stores are cheaper! 8o
U just need to look around and compare (tip: holland is usually cheaper and they often ask no shipping costs)

I bought my x-station for 280 euros.
I've seen microkorgs being sold for 200 or so.

Check synthforum.nl

The MicroKorg looks great, very seventies, nice vocoder too. But once in your hands it's pretty toy-ish, i sold mine because of my too big fingers....
I think you'd better look for a MS2000 (a or b)
for 350 / 400€ it's possible to find some and for that price you have 4x the microkorg !!!!!!
The sound is 100% the same.

:D :D

But, ok, it's not so sexy
;)

²nd that. Or if your budget is really low and yu could find a microorg for €200 or less, then buy it but still: ms2000 is low price range too and better.

about the micron:
it sounds like the ion but has more features (including arpegiator and sequencer) and less knobs (but assignable)
the sky is the limit with this machine
in this example i use my favorite bell sound (which i made from a preset conga sound)
i loop a melody and play with 2 parameters.
one is an fm modulation , the other one is assigned to decay time, the envelope is set to loop so short decay times will play the notes very fast after each other.
there is also a cool analogue modulation knob which lets the sounds go out of tune after a while.
