if there's one thing i wouldn't go low budget on, it has to be active monitor speakers. wait a couple of months and buy decent ones.

²nd that... you're better off with decent hifi speakers than with such low cost monitors. If you buy monitors, think >€500

Each if you can afford. If you want to go (semi)-pro, no pair of monitors under 1000 is even mentioned in comparisons. I have a pair of alesis m1 mk2 for a couple of years now. They're ok but you're just producing blindfolded when it comes to everything under 100hz. Same goes for other cheap moni's. The cheaper you go, the more they lack in flat response.

Check out the Adam A7 for a very revealing but budget friendly speaker. A little bass-light, but should be no problem at lower volumes. You could also add a sub at a later date to extend >the LF response.

it's a bit exaggerated, my yamaha HS50 are good for 280 € pair http://www.musicstore.de:80/fr_FR/EUR/Yamaha-HS-50M-Studiomonitor-aktiv-5-Woofer/0-75-HT-45/25w/art-REC0004057-000 HS 80 are better but a bit expensive for meQuote:

Don't mind the watts or power when you have nearfields (= bedroom producersetting, moni's at 1.5m in a triangle from your ears). Don't know much about technical details but I bet people like firefrog and others do. I heard good things about working with (even low budget) moni's in combination with a mid priced subwoofer (subwoofer monitor is even better but those cost again >€700). The everlasting rule is that you get to know your sound/room/monitors.
Check this thread:

most of these guys know what they're talking about and are semi-pro.

or buy a studio headphone. it's something different, but with 150 - 200 euri you can buy a damn nice headphone. check out AKG. Monitors are better for mastering purposes, but as your budget is small, consider something else maybe.

or... not.
mixing on headphones is not done. you have too much dynamic compared to a set of speakers. that's why a headphone-mix almost never sounds good on speakers.
for 200 euro you can't expect top notch, but if you go a bit higher (450 euro), you can get a pair of KRK's, yamaha's, ... and those do the trick really well.
as for genelec: you might wanna consider Dynaudio, because genelec is too precise compared to other speakers; you'll only hear your music like that on genelecs, which is not the purpose of monitors offcourse.

<font size="-1"><font face="arial,sans-serif">If i had the money i would buy the Mackie SRM-450 or the Mackie SRM 450 V2, along with the Mackie HRS120 12 inch Studio subwoofer. But problem is that this set up costs more then 2000 euro's :( furthermore i heard the Rokits Powered are semi good and pretty cheap moni's (300/400bucks a pair)

I Have the Mackie MR8 pair and they are bassy enough for me. You're first monitors shouldn't cost 1000 euro imho. You need years of training to benefit from those kind of monitors.
