hay!

i saw Fever Ray at Pukkelpop this friday, and was really blown away by the performace, it sounded so sick/creepy yet mysteriously beautiful....

anyway, one of the typical Fever Ray (or The Knife) elements is the voice pitching. Lately I'm totally hooked on Concrete Walls (check it on http://www.myspace.com/feverray)

i was wondering. does anybody know how to create that sick pitched voice? i tried some freeware voice pitchers, but they don't really create that typical sound. If i hear closely i think the voice is doubled with a fourth-interval above. probably a lot of eq'ing and stuff, but i just don't reach that crazy sound.

anybody who knows a vst i can use in fruity?

i think its more a guitar effect, like in battles' atlas, called Whammy
and you clearely hear his voice with the pitched one on top
so its half his voice and half the pitched one..
artillery from sugarbytes has a cool pitcher with which you could do more or less the same i guess

I listened to the song and to me it sounds complex and layered.  It might be a combination of his voice recorded and pitched and a vocoderlayer where he does the same pitchbending on some vocoderlayers and some not.

harry: listened to that battles song, it might have something to do with a guitar effect, don't know, i'll check out that Artillery...

bandarlog: (it's a female singer), i think it's indeed layered, maybe some layers are phased and differently eq'ed? do you know a good (perhaps freeware) vocoder that might bring me closer to that sound?

sounds like 2 voices, one an octave lower and one a fifth lower, none in the original pitch. Reminds me of that Celtic or Druide stuff.
Logic has great tools for vocal pitch bending, especially if you automate them to make slides etc. Ableton 8 has a frequency shifter too and you can probably reach this effect with a vocoder too.
You can also hear low orchestral strings sounds that 'melt' with the low voices which make it sound very big.
There's also a guitar pedal called 'POG' which can create harmonics or you can just copy the vocal track and pitch it manually. Or maybe just ask that Depotax guy :D
