FatsoForgotso - Horn (feat. MWE)

Description

This was an attempt to cover Horn by Nick Drake.

Tried my best to do something different with it, but it was very hard because the original song its strength comes from the silence in it...
I guess I didn't pick the easiest song to cover.

And the original song is still way better, of course :)

edit: I changed almost everything, I really wasn't satisfied with the first version. MWE helped me with the beats. comments welcome :)

Indeed. I discovered him not that long ago though, but I'm amazed by his sweet and honest music.

hm.. after listening again I feel the need for a constructive comment, hope you don't hate me now but it feels like in the beginning you're building up to sth really intimate and beautiful but then when the break falls in it doesn't really fit anymore, you have 2 whole different kinds of layers, it can still be in contrast but not just simply that dnb break.. that's why it's getting way better at 2.06.
my suggestion would be to let those hihats you use there come in first.. with a bit automation in volume or sth. and then after the silence before 2.06 add the breaks.
but that's just my thought of it, ge hebt al sowieso AL de goeie elementen voor n supertrack, zeker ook die voicesynth op t einde.. zou zelfs nog wa meer mogen uitkomen.. makes me think of peacock tail a bit with those guitars

when a cover is so much different from the original song, you can't compare the tracks... and that's a good thing. i think it's the best (and the only) way to cover an artist you like. if you just do the same thing, it's useless (and of course everyboby compare both songs). anyway, good job! nice cover. the beat is maybe a bit to simple for me but everything together sounds very good.

good edit, good beats, and i like the melo, you're evolving.

@ eeezeep..: I'm actually glad you said that, because I was thinking the same thing when I listened to it when it was finished. At the moment of that break, I expected something different (in my objective state of mind :) ). But I thought it had more to do with the bassline that made it a bit darker than the vibe I was expecting (a more intimate thing).. But I was too lazy to edit it again.. If I find the courage I'll re-edit it with your comment in mind. Thanks for the advice! (and even more thanks for the Peacock Tail-reference, that's my favourite boc-song :D)

@ dontwakemeup: thank you :) I was already thinking the beat could use a bit more variation btw, but again: too lazy to edit it

ne welgemeende merci to all the rest of you too, of course
