Description

This song is a tribute to our beloved forum member Eduard Sarens, known to many as DJ Donkey Kong on the National Fruityloops Forum (NFF), and as Space Chicken on Synthforum (NL). He also went by the names ED-Sarin and JohnDoe28, but to me, he was always just “Edje”.

I first met him online in 2011 through NFF, but it wasn’t until 2014 that I met him in person — during an NFF meetup I hosted at my home. That very day, he recorded the vocal you hear in this tribute. It’s a memory I hold dear.

Edje lived with a severe form of autism, and I was deeply moved by his unique way of being — his authenticity, his perspective on the world. He would often travel long distances by train to stay at my place. During those weekends, he stayed with my then-girlfriend and me. More than once, we had to rush him to the emergency room.

In 2021, he passed away after a severe epileptic seizure. He was only 29 years old.

But in my heart, he is still here — an angel, always by my side.

I myself struggle with epilepsy, especially in the form of intense sleep paralysis in which I often feel like I’m suffocating. In those moments, my ego panics — but deep within, my spirit is calm, reminding me I’m not alone. Souls like Eduard, people like him, are watching over me.

This song is for you, Edje.
With all I have.
