kiande - roasted squid

Description

This is a track i made around christmas (when i was supposed to study). It has a bit of a broken back, it starts of rather funky, followed by a more mellow part (in which you can witness my crappy keyboard-skills), and finally something that's supposed to be a climax. Needless to say, it's far from finished, but then again, it will probably never get finished, so i decided to post it here anyway.. I also reverse-engineered a sound-effect used by rinocerose in the song "mes vacances a rio" :)

anyway, i hope you enjoy my half-assed attempt at making deep house. And to qoute my buddie eddie: "comments are welcome" :D

off course we like yr half-assed attempt at making deep house ;-)

I think there are some verry nice elements in this track - the only don't always fit in the whole (but that i allready told you). But we both know you are the one with the finished songs and i'm not ;-)

quality track aaaight ;-)

This is pretty OK.
What are you complaining about???
Deep House doesn't really need a climax, just some simple ending like you did, since it always stays very minorish...

I think you really are having a case of "false modesty", but I forgive you. ;)

err, maybe you have a point there ;)

anywayz, the problem i have with this song is that the pieces just refuse to fall into place. relating to the "broken back" it feels like 2 different songs glued together, lacking any coherency. And for my keyboard skills, dude, i really suck ;) but the fun thing about reason is you can cheat all the way by recording midi and removing the errors afterwards :)

a little story about that "climax": eddie and my other friends are always bugging me: "man, when are you going to finally FINISH a song???". This is my biggest flaw, i'm always like "hmm, i could change that", and "what if i did this differently" and so on. Result: about 1,5 finished songs and a lot of "intros". I spent about 3 weeks trying to get this song right, but i finally gave up on it as i got tired of listening to it for the umpteenth time. I added that last part as a reprise of the first theme with a few strings and some brass, just to be able to say: "look people, i finished it!". :)

Maybe we could add a "music philosophy" thread for discussing this kind of stuff.. zARK? :D

dont you worry mate>>it's all a question of taste>>i look at the class in the song>>the feelin that ya get

your's feels good>>that's what deephouse is all about

good production

only the trumps are too cheap at 3min50 sec>>dont keep long trumps in this production

add a few trump stabs with delay>>ya whole song is bazed on delayed instruments and your trump falls out of the picture

Good stereo-positioning of the elements. Makes it open and breathing. I think your "atempt" to make a deep-house song is very well succeeded! ALso cool are the trumpets and arpeggiators. Many different elements in this song make sure that it stays interesting, very well done. Maybe the only thing that could be better is the mixing of the bass, a bit deeper and more pounding and pumping :)) but for the rest this song is more than ok.

As for the duality you talked about: I think when you know HOW you made the song, you listen to it very differently. I for one did not hear any "duality-collision". And as for the comment on the trumps by cestqui, hmmm...maybe he's right, I don't know very much about deep-house. But to me the trumpets brought a contrast in the song that is very nice. You could transform this song into a dub-song if you liked to...would be cool to remake it with a more dub-feel. But hey, I don't wanna overload you with suggestions ;) Just keep it in mind

Kick-ass bassline, very funky indeed! You should try to avoid using too many of those reason pre-fabricated samples, i'm not talking about the instruments, but the real pre-fab samples. Other than that, sweet sounds.
